It’s not your imagination: White hair is on the rise. In fact, according to a new study from France, it could be as much as 25% of all 50-year-olds who have noticeably white hair.
But what causes this change in color and how can you stop it?

So what can you do to prevent white hair growth?
Well, quitting smoking is a good place to start. If that’s not possible for you, then at least try to cut down on the number of cigarettes you smoke each day.
Improve Your Diet:
What you eat also has an effect on your hair color. Try to consume foods that are rich in B vitamins like leafy greens, legumes, and whole grains. These will help to keep your pigment cells healthy.
Also avoid drinking too much coffee since it can limit the blood flow to the scalp which affects the production of melanin, the pigment that gives hair its color.
Get Enough Sunlight:
Another way to keep your hair healthy and prevent it from going gray or white is to get enough sunlight. Sunshine stimulates the production of vitamin D, which is essential for keeping your hair follicles functioning properly. Soaking up some rays for about 20 minutes per day should be enough.
As mentioned before, stress is also a cause of hair loss. In order to prevent that from happening, try to relax more often through meditation or yoga. Stress will have a negative impact on the health of your hair as well as other parts of your body. In addition, try to avoid too much heat as it will fade your hair color faster.
Use a Hair Dye:
If you’re really not happy with the color of your hair, there are a few things you can do to cover up the white strands. One is to dye your hair using a dark brown or black color.
Another option is to use a hair tinting product that only colors the hair slightly. These products are particularly effective for covering up gray hairs, but if you want to cover up all your white hair, then it’s better to go with a dye that completely covers your hair instead of leaving any white strands behind.
It’s best to schedule an appointment with a hairstylist or barber to get your hair dyed or tinted. They will be able to give you the best advice on what color to choose and how to go about dyeing your hair.
